The Living Canvas

About this program

The Living Canvas is a commissioned artwork, not a bodypainting appointment. Only one guest, or one couple, can book it on each sailing, and they become the centerpiece of an original living work of art created by Madelyn, who holds seven international first-place titles in bodypainting.

Before the voyage, Madelyn holds a private phone consultation with the guest about their vision, color palette and preparation. She then paints a large original backdrop for the commission, and designs a bodypainting that unites the guest and the backdrop as one work of art.

On the day, Madelyn paints for four hours in a public space such as the ship’s promenade, before an audience of fellow guests. As the painting comes to life, the figure and the backdrop begin to read as one image, and then the artwork steps out of the canvas. The finished piece becomes the guest’s one-of-a-kind costume for that night’s theme party.

Living art is temporary, so the guest also receives a signed original concept sketch from the development of the commission, to keep long after the paint is gone.

Madelyn created The Living Canvas for Bliss Cruise aboard Wonderland of the Seas. It can be offered on any sailing with a theme night.
